Justin Hettinga was born in 1985 in Canada.

He graduated as a structural engineer in 2007, and worked as a structural engineer in Canada and Australia following graduation before doing the SAHC Masters Program during the 2008/2009 academic year. After graduating he was out of work for a year, spending most of his time in Vancouver searching for a job. After one year he gained employment as a structural engineer in Kelowna, but was layed off after four months due to lack of work. Shortly after he found another structural engineering job in Vernon.
