Thomas Sturm Moreira was born in Santiago de Chile in 1981.

He is a Civil Engineer since June 2008, when he graduated in the University of Chile. He was awarded by the Chilean Ministry of Education for the contribution of his thesis to the preservation of heritage buildings in Valparaíso. Afterwards he worked for one year as a structural engineer in the design of high rise buildings and as a forensic engineer. He enrolled the SAHC Masters Course during the 2009/2010 academic year. Since 2010 he is a PhD student of the Minho University, where he works on the subject of development of technology for earth construction in seismic areas of developing countries. He also assists projects related to heritage buildings.
